Average lead time
2 to 4 weeks
- 01
Document intake
Original registration documents, COC (Certificate of Conformity), ID and purchase invoice. We check completeness before we start.
- 02
Vehicle identification
VIN check, paperwork validation and - where relevant - sworn translation of foreign documents so the RDW accepts everything first time.
- 03
RDW technical inspection
Identification plus technical check at the RDW. We plan, bring and attend the inspection ourselves so any question is answered on the spot.
- 04
BPM filing
On the actual condition with supporting evidence - photos, mileage, valuation. Not a flat tabular filing; fiscally clean.
- 05
Registration
Dutch plate application with the RDW. Once approved you receive the registration certificate within one to three working days.
- 06
Ready-to-drive delivery
New plates, registration card, optional MOT planning and a chat with your insurer. You leave with Dutch plates registered to your name.
Frequently asked questions
Good to know
What is an RC Transfer?
Converting a foreign Registration Certificate to Dutch plates via the RDW. Mandatory once you are registered in the Netherlands for longer than six months, or whenever you import a vehicle for permanent registration here.
Who needs an RC Transfer?
Anyone wanting to register a foreign-plated vehicle in the Netherlands: import buyers, expats relocating with their car, private buyers who made a cross-border purchase, or companies with international lease contracts coming to term.
How long does it take?
Two to four weeks from complete document delivery, on average. Speed depends on the RDW schedule and any extra checks - older or rare vehicles can require additional technical assessment.
What does an RC Transfer cost?
Our service fee plus RDW fees (around €60 to €150) plus BPM (varies per vehicle). During the intake we set out a transparent breakdown. For import vehicles we often quote a single bundled price together with our import service - usually more favourable than the two services separately.
What if my foreign documents are incomplete?
We advise upfront which documents are still needed (sworn translation, COC, vehicle history) and help request them from the issuing authority or the manufacturer. A missing COC can typically be ordered within four to eight weeks.
Do I receive Dutch plates straight away?
Once the RDW inspection passes and the BPM is settled you receive the Dutch plate within one to three working days. We arrange the new plates and can fit them at delivery, so you can drive away immediately.
